HPP Programme
HPP (Hei Awhiawhi Pukapuka – Embracing Books) is designed to assist children with their oral language through:

Sharing story books 1-1 with a trained parent/grandparent/adult.  In particular those who are:
identified pupils aged 6 to 10 years;
those reading below their chronological age;
those who missed on the reading recovery cut off point.
The trained adults are responsible for:

Engaging children individually 3x per week for 25 – 30 minutes. in conversation around books
Supporting the children’s oral language
Enhancing literacy skills
Encouraging and maintaining eye contact
Beginning and ending conversations
Asking and answering questions
Discussing story content
Fostering a love of reading in a non-threatening  manner
Building self esteem
