Our learning philosophy for tamariki

We believe learners learn best through a personalised, agentic programme, with strong whānau engagement.

Our approach to teaching and learning is focused on supporting children to develop key capabilities which are fundamental to effective life-long learning: Communication, Discovery, Investigation, Thinking, Hauora, and Agency. Read more about these on our Curriculum page.

Akoranga time is a pedagogical approach that we encourage, where play is a valued mode of learning. Children can explore, experiment, discover, and solve problems in imaginative and playful ways. Learn more about Akoranga here. You can also download out Akoranga PDF (8.5mb).

Learning hubs are team-teaching environments, where tamariki can work in a range of different ways. By using flexible teaching spaces children are able to come together in groups. Collaboration between the teachers has great benefits as each child is known well by multiple teachers and learning activities can be designed to suit the individual learner. Our library holds a fantastic collection of fiction, non-fiction and reference material to help grow our children’t love of reading and exploring.

Frankley School offers opportunities for our students to develop their Frankley School Capabilities within the context of digital technologies. This both reflects and prepares them for the modern world that they live in.

Bring Your Own Device

As new technologies continue to change the world in which we live, they also provide many new and positive educational benefits for classroom instruction. To encourage this growth, we operate a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme from Years 3 to 6.
